A 68-year-old Swedish man died after his motorcycle taxi collided with a car at a busy intersection in Hua Hin (Prachuap Khiri Khan province).

The accident occurred on Monday night, Tuesday morning, Swedish time on November 28. Mr. Dan Magnusson, a close friend of the deceased, says they had been out to dinner that evening  and went their different ways to get home.  The 68-year-old Swede took a motorcycle taxi.

At the fateful intersection, the driver of the motorcycle stopped at a red light and resumed his journey when the lights turned green.  “A car ran a red light at very, very high speed on the main road,” Mr Magnusson said. “It looked as if the driver gassed up instead of slowing down when he saw the red light about to turn.”

The victim, a Stockholm-based Swede, was on a golf trip to Thailand and had rented an apartment in Hua Hin. He had been there three for weeks and planned to return home on December 4.

The Swedish Embassy and the relatives of the deceased have been notified of the fatal accident.
