Andrew Green Thomas

Police in Pattaya are investigating the death of a foreigner who was found hanged inside a burning house.

At 4:00 early Monday morning, firefighters were called to a building in Huai Yai subdistrict in Bang Lamung, Chon Buri. The house, located at 81/6 Soi 36 Thetsaban Rd next to the Huai Yai Temple, was ablaze. Flames from the ground floor were seen burning their way up.

After firefighters had extinguished the fire, local police officers made a bizarre discovery. Inside the bedroom, they discovered the body of a foreign male – hanged. The man was identified as 56-year-old Andrew Green Thomas from England, police say in a report.

Police questioned the deceased’s Thai wife and her 29-year-old daughter from an earlier marriage, who both live nearby. Mr Thomas’s stepdaughter said that her mother had received a call from Mr Thomas threatening to kill himself. This is when she checked on him. She explained that her mother had refused to accompany her because Mr Thomas had “regularly beaten up” his wife.

When the step daughter arrived, she tried to put out the blaze using buckets of water from the swimming pool, but it was too fierce, so she called the police who sent out firefighters.

Police have taken photographic evidence and sent Mr Thomas’s body to the Police Hospital in order to determine the actual cause of death.
