Arnaud Sacha Leclere

An early morning scooter crash killed two and severely injured a third. One of the victims was a director of a local bar .

The crash occurred in front of the Fong Beer pub on Phra Metta Rd in Phuket’s Patong subdistrict at around o2:40 on Sunday morning. Two scooters, which police said were driving in opposite directions, collided in circumstances yet to be investigated.

Two of the riders involved, a 33-year-old French man, Arnaud Sacha Leclere, and an unidentified Thai male, were completely thrown off their vehicles. A third man, 23 year old Win Soe Tai from Myanmar, sustained serious injuries in the crash. His role in the accident remains unclear.

All three victims were rushed to Patong Hospital. However, both Mr Leclere and the unamed Thai rider were pronounced dead on arrival. The sole survivor, Mr Win is in intensive care and said to be in a critical, but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Mr Leclere was well-known in the area for his role as Director at Pink Paradise Phuket on Bangla Road. The bar published the following short message on Sunday evening: “Today, we lost our Director, our brother, our best friend. R.I.P Arnaud. We will always love you…”


Mr Leclere is survived by a wife and son.

Patong police are waiting for Mr Win to regain consciousness so that he can be interviewed about the incident. The French Embassy were notified by police about Mr Leclere’s death early on Monday morning.
