Clark Shao

The family of a Houston man, who was tragically killed in a road accident on October 18, is desperately trying to raise money to take his body home.

Scant details about the accident have been released to the public. We know only that Clark Shao, a 32 year old American national, crashed into another vehicle, possibly another two-wheeler. Mr Shao was taken to hospital, but later died. His girlfriend Melissa was injured.

From the club scene to the gym scene, Clark Shao was a well-known name and face in Houston. His cousin, Oscar Chen, described him as ‘a hard-working person’ revealing that Shai believed that you should work hard, play hard and live life a day at a time, from minute to time.

Mr Shao and his girlfriend, known only as ‘Melissa’, had been spending their holiday on Koh Phangan in Surat Thani province. On the day of the accident, the couple spent the afternoon at the beach and were returning to their hotel by scooter when the accident happened.

The day before the crash, Mr Shao posted a video on Instagram showing his hotel room close to a local beach. He is quoted as saying, “The King of Thailand just passed so the entire country banned all parties and festivities for at least one month to show #respect.” He wrote, “Here for the now #CANCELLED #FullMoonParty , so looks like I’ll be relaxing rather than partying.”

His family, recently arrived in Thailand, is desperately trying to raise funds to repatriate his body to the United States for a funeral with help from his friends who have started a GoFundMe page to help with such expenses. Shao’s cousin stated that the police have not yet released his body.
