Don Spence

An Australian expatriate died Sunday morning of a heart attack after being involved in a scooter accident, an online forum reported.

Don Spence, who was well connected to the local expat scene, suffered a heart attack while he was riding his scooter on Saturday evening at around 19:30. He only sustained minor injuries in the crash.

An ambulance brought Mr Spence to Nong Khai Wattana Hospital where he suffered a second heart attack. Doctors were not able to save his life, Don Spence died in the early hours of Sunday, June 18, his wife confirmed.

The death was reported by a user of the Udon Thani Forum at udonmap.com. “A great mate to a lot of us and he will be sadly missed,” he said. Another user said: “Don was a wonderful, decent and trustworthy man, and loved by many.”

Mr Spence had been living in Thailand for 15 years and spent a lot of his life working as a diver and later switched to diving safety. He lived in Nong Khai together with his wife, with whom he had a young son. He also leaves behind two adult children from a former marriage in his native Australia.
