Doris Erika Beger

A quarrel with her husband ended deadly for an elderly German tourist when she jumped from the 24th floor of her Bangkok condominium late Friday night.

Pol Capt Noppa Klongbo, deputy investigator from Lumphini Police Station, was informed of the incident at around 23:40 by the staff of an apartment building. Together with officers of the Scientific Crime Detection Division, emergency doctors and Ruam Katanyu rescue volunteers, police went to investigate the scene.

The incident took place at a 25-storey high luxury condominium in Soi Mahatlek Luang in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district which police declined to name. Upon ascending to the pool area on the sixth floor, police officers found the already dead body of Doris Erika Beger, 57, floating inside the swimming pool.

A brief medical examination revealed several fractures on the body, indicating that the woman had probably fallen from one of the rooms above. It was estimated she had been dead for not more than an hour before police arrived.

Police questioned the 70-year-old German husband of the deceased who reportedly worked in Bangkok as a lawyer and had been living in the condominium with his wife for three years.

He said that they had been to a pub in Sukhumvit Soi 1 before returning to their hotel room on the 24th floor. In the room, the two had a heated argument which ended with Mrs Beger throwing herself off the apartment’s balcony.

Pol Capt Noppa said the woman might have jumped to her death because she felt hurt. However, he said he will wait for the result of the investigation before drawing any definite conclusions.
