Gadi Shefi

The former head of the Israeli Navy’s special operations unit died in Thailand after suffering a heart attack while on vacation in Pattaya.

The body of Gadi Shefi, 76, was found on Sunday in a hotel room in Pattaya, Chon Buri province after he went missing a week earlier. Police notified his family on Monday night. During his military service in the navy, Mr Shefi headed up the Flotilla13 special operations unit from 1976 to 1978. He was also involved in several secret incursions into Lebanon.

In a statement on Facebook, Mr Shefi’s son, Ari, wrote, “At this hard and painful time, we want to thank everyone for the help in finding our father.”

A statement by the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the death and Embassy staff be assisting the family in repatriating Mr Shefi’s body.
