Hans Dieter Hildebrandt

In the early hours of Friday, a 71-year-old German was found dead in a street in East Pattaya next to his bicycle in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung amphoe.

The dead man was identified as Mr Hans Dieter Hildebrandt and his body was found approximately 2 kilometers from his family home in Soi 43 in the Nong Pla Lai area.

The German’s Thai wife arrived at the scene and told police that her husband would ride to local shops on a daily basis and would normally stop off at a convenience store on the way home for some drinks with friends and would normally return home about 21:00.

She became concerned he had not returned and began a search for him with the help of friends who were informed of his death at around 03:00 at night in the middle of the road as he was driving his bicycle home.

Police are waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination but suspect he died of a heart attack. The German Embassy in Bangkok has been informed.
