A motorcycle trip from Hua Hin to the famous holiday island Koh Samui ended deadly for the Swedish rider when he lost control on a road in Surat Thani province.

Pol Lt Col Somjid Sommai, an investigator from Don Sak Provincial Police Station, received a report from a resident at 13:30 about a foreign man who was lying along with his motorcycle next to the main road and appeared to be dead.

Police, medical staff and rescue volunteers arrived on the scene on Donsak-Bannai Rd in Don Sak district and found the crashed motorcycle a few metres next to the road. “The bike, a black Ducati, had no licence plate and was severely damaged,” Pol Lt Col reported.

Next to the vehicle, Somjid found the body of Swedish national Hans Kristian, 39, who had died in the crash. “He was wearing a grey jacket and a pair of black jeans,” Pol Lt Col said. His head was smashed and his neck broken, leading investigators to the conclusion that the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police are now trying to reconstruct what eventually resulted in the collision. In the meantime, his body has been sent to Surat Thani Hospital and the Swedish Embassy has been informed of the death.
