Harry Isaac Hitman

A 30-year-old British male was killed in Phuket after he crashed his scooter into a concrete wall in the early hours of the morning. Police suspect the incident to be alcohol-related.

The fatal road accident was confirmed the next day by Pol Capt Somkiet Sarasit, an investigator at Chalong Provincial Police Station: “At about 02:30 early Saturday morning, we were notified of a road accident involving a foreign male who had died at the scene having collided into a concrete wall.”

Police and volunteers of the local rescue foundation rushed to the scene on Soi Ta-Iad in Phuket’s Chalong subdistrict, about 100 metres west of Phuket Spa. The victim, identified by his international driving licence as Harry Isaac Hitman, 30, was flung back onto the road as a result of the high speed impact. His scooter was found lying on its side at the foot of the wall.

“There were no eyewitnesses to the actual crash,” Pol Capt Somkiet told The Phuket News. However, other road drivers soon came upon Mr Hitman’s body lying prostrate and immobile on the road and immediately called authorities.

Investigator Pol Capt Somkiet inspected the scene of the accident and found the driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He released the following statement: “It is highly likely that Mr Hitman was driving at high speed, lost control and subsequently crashed into the wall. We suspect that he was intoxicated at the time.”

Pol Capt Somkiet stated that Mr Hitman held a current UK driving licence and had entered Thailand on a tourist visa, but was unable to say how long he had planned to stay in the Kingdom. “All we know is that Mr Hitman was staying on Soi Ta-iad. I am not sure if he was here for fitness training, or how long he was going to stay”.

He tolder reporters that rescue volunteers had sent the victim’s body to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy. “Then we will know for sure if this accident was alcohol-related or not.”

The day after the accident, Mr Hitman’s mother arrived in Phuket to organise the repatriation of her son’s body.
