Ivan Yatsyniak

A fatal road crash occurred on the notoriously dangerous Highway 36 in East Pattaya on Sunday morning which resulted in the death of a Ukrainian tourist.

Police and medics arrived at the scene and inspected the body of Mr Ivan Yatsyniak, aged 55, who was lying on the road outside of the Bira International Racing Circuit. Nearby was the victims’ Finnish friend who offered police his version of the crash.

The pair had just rented motorbikes and decided to drive to Koh Chang in Trat province but lost their way and needed to make a U-turn.

They moved over from the left lane of the carriageway to the right-lane as they approached the U-turn but Mr Yatsyniak’s bike was struck by a fast-moving Honda CRV.

The Ukrainian was thrown onto the road and into the path of a Nissan pick-up driven who ran over the bike driver before coming to a halt.

Police detained both car drivers for further questioning and informed the Ukrainian Embassy in Bangkok of the death of one of their nationals.
