Jari Olavi Heikkinen
A 50-year-old Finnish man committed suicide at his home in Pattaya Friday afternoon.
Mueang Pattaya Provincial Police Station received a call at 17:30 from a Thai woman, reporting that she had found the dead body of her foreign friend hanged inside his house. Pol Capt Wattana Bradit, an investigator from Mueang Pattaya Provincial Police Station, was assigned to the case.
Arriving along with workers of the local rescue foundation, police entered the house of the man inside the Suk Sabai Villa community in Chon Buri’s subdistrict Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district. The woman who had earlier contacted the police led the officers to the bathroom.
The man, identified from his passport as 50-year-old Jari Olavi Heikkinen from Finland, was found hanging in front of his bathroom. A nylon rope had been wound around his neck. The other end was attached to a wooden beam in the roof.
The Thai woman, who asked not to be named in the media, said she was a friend of Mr Heikkinen and lived nearby. At noon, she saw him intoxicated at the pool in the back of his house. She left, but decided to return some hours later.
When she went back to the house at about 17:00, she told Pol Capt Wattana that Mr Heikkinen was nowhere to be seen. She called his name several times and, after nobody responded, asked the manager of the compound to use his spare key to open the front door. This is when they discovered Mr Heikkinen’s dead body.
Based on the fact that no items of value were missing, and there were no signs of a struggle, Pol Capt Wattana concluded that Mr Heikkinen had most likely committed suicide. A forensic examination has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death.
