Jean Gustave Gruter

A flight from Doha to Phuket with Qatar Airways turned out to be the last flight for an elderly Dutch tourist. He died after losing consciousness on board.

The 89-year-old man, Mr Jean Gustave Gruter, was on Qatar Airways flight QR 842 which departs from Doha in Qatar and lands in Phuket at 06:08. Relatives and friends, whose names were not published, were also on board.

“Halfway into the flight, Mr Gruter was found unconscious in the lavatory,” Pol Capt Graison Bunbrasop said. When the aircraft touched down at 06:14, he was rushed to Thalang Hospital, but doctors were not able to save the life of the elderly tourist.

Pol Capt Graison believes that a pre-existing medical condition was the reason why Mr Gruter lost consciousness on board the aircraft. “We also assume that he was already dead when he was found,” Pol Capt Graison said.

An autopsy at Thalang Hospital is now trying to establish the cause of death.
