Johnny Daniel Soederstroem

A Swedish motorcycle enthusiast lost his life during a road accident with his bike in Phuket Thursday evening, Matichon Online reported.

Pol Capt Khanom Thongbaen, an investigator from Tha Chatchai Provincial Police Station, said the crash occurred at around 19:50 on April 14 on Thepkrasattri Bridge that connects Phuket to the mainland.

A friend of the victim who was following him on his motorcycle identified him as Johnny Daniel Soederstroem, 41, from Sweden. He told police they both were on their way to Phuket Bike Week, an annual event for motorcycle enthusiasts.

As the two were crossing the bridge, Mr Soederstroem stood up on his black Honda CB650F motorcycle to throw a glance at the sea, his friend said. He then lost control of his bike and crashed into the concrete barrier on the side of the bridge.

According to Pol Capt Khanom, Mr Soederstroem was still alive after the accident but had a broken neck and severe injuries to his chest. He was rushed to Thalang Hospital on the island but succumbed to his wounds in the emergency room.
