An imprisoned 51-year-old Briton who had murdered his wife four months earlier died after he fell from the prison building. Local police say the incident was either suicide or an accident.
At about 14:00 on Wednesday, August 15, police officers at Mueang Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police Station were notified of a man who had fallen from a prison in which he was incarcerated. Pol Lt Col Bramot Shueanda called the rescue services and rushed to the scene.
On the ground next to Ubon Ratchathani Central Prison in Nai Mueang subdistrict, Ubon Ratchathani province, police and rescuers found the man. Despite suffering severe injuries, the man did not die on the spot.
“He was still alive at the time we arrived, so we rushed him to the hospital,” Pol Lt Col Bramot said. However, all attempts to keep the man alife were in vain – doctors pronounced him dead when the ambulance arrived at the hospital.
Police quickly identified the man as Kevin Smitham, a 51-year-old Briton who had been imprisoned in Ubon Ratchathani Central Prison for the murder of his wife four months earlier.
