An elderly German man was found dead at his house in Lop Buri province on Monday afternoon. Police have yet to determine the cause of death.
Pol Capt Katrat Sominat indicated that the body of Kurt Burkhard, 74, had been found by a neighbour. “He was passing by and saw Mr Burkhard lying in front of a swing next to his house.’ He realised that Mr Burkhard was dead and notified the authorities.
Kok Toom Provincial Police Station officers, rescue volunteers and an emergency doctor from Ananthamahidol Hospital arrived arrived at 223/3 Moo 6 in Lop Buri’s Nikhom Sang Ton Eng subdistrict where they could merely affirm the death of the elderly gentleman.
Despite their being no obvious cause of death, police found a head laceration. ‘This might have been caused by his fall,” said Pol Capt Katrat. A cursory medical examination revealed that Mr Burkhard had only been dead for a matter of hours.
Police questioned the deceased’s 66-year-old Thai wife. According to her, Mr Burkhard had been living in Thailand for 14 years. He often spent his day relaxing on the small swing in the front of the house and would occasionally fall asleep.
On the day of his death, the investigation revealed, Mr Burkhard went to sit on the swing at around 08:00 after having breakfast with his wife. His wife did not check on him until alerted by the neighbour who found him lying motionless on the ground.
