Li Qinsheng

Li Qinsheng, a 50-year-old Chinese tourist, has died while swimming close to a remote island off the coast of Pattaya on Friday afternoon, English language newspaper Pattaya One reported.

The incident happened on Koh Sak, an island near popular Koh Lan and only 4 kilometers off the coast of Pattaya. Rescue workers recovered the unconscious body of Mr Li Qinsheng. However, immediate resuscitation attempts failed and Mr Li passed away before reaching the hospital

Eyewitnesses said the victim had gone for a swim and decided to wear a life jacket as he considered himself not to be a strong swimmer. Mr Li was seen collapsing during his swim and was shortly later seen floating in the water with his head slumped forward.

Police suspect Mr Li might have suffered a heart attack as he swam but will wait for the result of a post-mortem examination to officially determine the cause of death.

The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok have been informed.
