A 27-year-old healthcare worker from Ireland died only three days after arriving in Thailand. She fell from the balcony of her hotel room in Koh Samui, Irish media reported.
On Wednesday, January 17, Louise Furey, 27, published a picture of herself and her boyfriend, Sam Bulmer>, on her private Facebook account. In the photograph, the Irish couple is sitting at a table near the beach, sipping fruit shakes and chilled beer. “Long flight… relaxation time!!!,” Ms Furey captioned the picture.
It became the last picture showing Ms Furey alive. Three days later, on January 19, she was pronounced dead after reportedly falling from the balcony of the hotel room she had been sharing with her long-term boyfriend. The two had been staying at the Replay Residence & Pool Villa, a three-star hotel on the north of the island in Koh Samui’s Bo Put subdistrict.
Bo Put Provincial Police Station, in whose jurisdiction the incident took place, refused to give out any information regarding the death of Ms Furey, which explained why there had been no mention of her death in Thai media. However, several Irish online news websites reported the tragic incident and revealed some details.
According to the Irish Mirror, Ms Furey “had only arrived in Thailand last Wednesday for a holiday”. It also stated that a “full investigation had been launched by local police into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy”.
Further reports added that Ms Furey was from Glenties in Co Denegal in Ireland but had moved to Guernsey some years ago to work for Health & Social Care’s children’s services. It was her first trip to Thailand and should have been “the trip of a lifetime”, Ms Furey’s sister told Irish Times. An autopsy was due to be carried out in Bangkok on Tuesday, Donegal Democrat wrote>.
