Chiang Mai police have reported the death of a former US pilot. The 62-year-old American reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself, local online media wrote.
Details about the assumed suicide of Michael McLellan, 62, were published on English and Thai language news websites. According to an article on Chiang Mai CityNews>, the former pilot and flight engineer took his life inside his one-storey house at 26 Soi 1 Rattanakosin Rd Rd in Wat Ket subdistrict of Mueang Chiang Mai district on Wednesday.
Ban Mueang reported> that Mr McLellan shot himself in his bedroom at about 12:00. Pol Col Biyapan Patarapongsin, Commander of Chiang Mai Provincial Police, and deputy inspector Pol Lt Patcharapon Indetja of Mae Ping Provincial Police Station confirmed the apparent suicide.
Police questioned Mr McLellan’s wife who was only named Mrs Ning. According to the 48-year-old wife, her husband had been suffering from diabetes mellitus for several years. Various attempts to treat his illness failed, Mrs Ning told police, causing him to fall into depression.
Shortly before noon, Mrs Ning heard a single gunshot coming from the bedroom. When she entered the room, she found her husband lying dead in a pool of blood with a pistol in his hand. Based on the inspection of the scene, police ruled out that Mr McLellan had become a victim of crime.
His body was sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital to confirm the cause of death through an autopsy officially. Police have notified the United States Embassy in Bangkok of Mr McLellan’s death.
