Patrick Andre Marie

Police in Hat Yai are investigating the death of a French male tourist. He was found dead in a guesthouse in Hat Yai district on Sunday.

The owner of a guesthouse on Nipatuthit 2 Rd in Songkhla province reported the death at noon on Sunday, January 13, deputy inspector Pol Capt Dechawad Magkam said. Police have withheld the name of the guesthouse and its owner.

Following the report, a team of officers from Hat Yai Provincial Police Station, tourist police and Hat Yai Hospital doctors arrived at the accommodation and were led to room number 358. Local rescue volunteers were present to assist the officers.

On the bed in the room, officers found the recumbent body of a 64-year-old French national, Patrick Andre Marie. Superintendent Pol Col Gitdichai Sangkatawon told reporters that despite being found naked, there did not appear to be any suspicious  circumstances surrounding the deceased’s death.

According to the owner, Mr Marie was a regular guest and had checked in on January 8th. He was last seen alive at around 23:00 the night before. A maid discovered Mr Marie’s body after she opened the unlocked door at noon to clean his room.

Police undertook a detailed inspection of the room but did not find any signs of a crime. Mr Marie’s passport and personal belongings had been undisturbed, said Pol Col Gitdichai.

To determine the cause of death, rescue volunteers took Mr Marie’s body to Hat Yai Hospital where an autopsy has been scheduled.
