Peter John Bright

The body of an Australian national was found in a hotel room on Phuket in the late afternoon. Police suspect a heart attack to be the cause of death.

Peter John Bright, 55, was staying at the “Hello Yaya Residence” hotel on Phra Baramee Rd in Patong subdistrict. He had been there since February 23 and was due to check out on March 2, Phuket Gazette reported.

According to Pol Capt Sirinat Cherdchutrakulthong of Patong Police, it was his own daughter who discovered him: “She went over with her boyfriend to invite her father to lunch and came across his body. He was lying on the bed, shirtless and with his lower torso covered by a sheet, ” Pol Capt Sirinat stated.

Police inspected the room finding antibiotics, but no signs of a crime. Rescue workers transported Mr Bright’s body to Patong Hospital for a post mortem.

Employees at the hotel where Mr Bright was staying told police that he had checked in February and was living alone. They had seen him, the night before his death, leaving the hotel with his daughter and her boyfriend to go out for drinks.

He returned alone at about 01:00 accompanied by two women. The women left the hotel an hour later. Hotel employees, who had seen both women, told police that they “did not look suspicious”.

Pol Capt Sirinat said he would not rule out any theories, but strongly suspected that Mr Bright had died of a heart attack shortly after the two Thai women had left his room.

Police are still investigating the case to determine what might have led to the victim’s heart attack. “We intend to examine CCTV footage to help to locate the two women in question,” Capt Sirinat said.
