Qi Ding

A young Chinese tourist lost his life Monday afternoon after his jet ski collided with a speedboat in Chon Buri province, Thai News Agency reported today.

According to Pattaya’s Superintendent of Provincial Police, Pol Col Sukthat Phumphanmuang, the two water vehicles crashed near the famous holiday island Koh Larn at around 14:00. The 26-year-old Chinese driver Qi Ding and his 25-year-old Thai riding pillion were severely injured during the collision.

The speedboat, a Sea Hawks 430, was taking tourists from Ta Waen Beach back to the mainland when the accident occurred. Danupol Kaewreuanma, an assistant guide, told police officers high waves off Koh Larn made it impossible for the speedboat driver to see the oncoming jet ski.

The impact vaulted both men into the sea. They were rescued and sent to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where Mr Qi could not be resuscitated. The second victim was transferred to Chon Buri Hospital for further treatment of serious injuries, Pol Col Sukthat said.
