Roman Yurosov

A swim at Karon Beach in Phuket province ended fatally for a 43-year-old Russian man. He went swimming despite the presence of red flags which warn tourists and locals of dangerous conditions.

Karon police questioned the wife of the deceased, Roman Yurosov, to find out what had happened during that fateful day. She told officers they the couple had arrived in Phuket September 22, two days before the incident, and had planned to return on October 3.

The pair was staying at a hotel near Karon Beach. According to her, Mr Yurosov often went out to sunbathe on the beach or go for a swim.

On September 24, Mr. Yurosov again entered the water and was soon swept away by strong tides. At some stage, he lost consciousness. Lifeguards managed to pull him out of the water and immediately started to resuscitate him, but to no avail. The victim died before reaching the hospital.

His body has been scheduled for a thorough forensic examination and the Russian Embassy informed of the incident.
