Ronald James Davis
An Englishman, who had separated from his wife of 15 years to start a relationship with a younger woman, was found dead in his apartment in Udon Thani. Police believe the 78-year-old died of heart failure on Wednesday.
Ronald James Davis, 78, was found lying face up on his bed in the main bedroom when police officers from Mueang Udon Thani Provincial Police Station and medical examiners from Udon Thani Hospital arrived at the single-storey house on 49/101 on Soi Sukjai Pattana in Udon Thani’s Nong Bua subdistrict.
The leading investigator, Pol Maj Nim Ponchom told reporters arriving at the scene: “Mr Davis’s wife, Mrs Bapanid Davis, 48, notified us of the death of her husband at around 10:00 that morning.”
A medical examiner at the scene noticed that the deceased’s skin was just starting to go blue and concluded that he had died a mere 30 minutes prior to their arrival. Pol Maj Nim reported that Mr Davis was wearing nothing but a pair of yellow shorts, adding: “We inspected the room but did not find anything disturbed. At this time, we believe Mr Davis died of heart failure.”
Local volunteers of the Metadam Foundation delivered the body to the department of pathology at Udon Thani Hospital, while police questioned Mr Davis’ wife. She stated that her and her husband had been married for over 15 years and had three children, but Mr Davis was having an affair with a woman in the neighbourhood. The couple had decided to separate about five years ago, but never divorced. Indeed, Mrs Bapanid visited her husband almost daily as their children lived with him.
According to Mrs Bapanid account, her husband had spoken to her about his mistress’s money problems and seemed overwrought by them. In fact, in the week prior to his death, he had reportedly sent his mistress 10,000 baht.
On the morning his body was found, Mrs Bapanid had arrived at the house just before 10:00 in order to prepare a meal for her husband who regularly skipped meals. She sent their youngest child to take it to his room and it was he who found the body.
