In central Chiang Mai, an American fell to his death from the balcony of his room on the 10th floor of his apartment in the early hours of Monday.
An officer at Mueang Chiang Mai Provincial Police Station said they were alerted at 01:50. According to reports, a man had fallen to his death at a condominium named The Astra at 191/12 Changklan Rd in Chang Khlan subdistrict of Chiang Mai province.
Deputy investigating officer Pol Lt Pirawat Chaosomsri said the man, identified as 60-year-old American Ruben Ponce, had plunged to his death from his room on the 10th floor. He had been living in the apartment for about two years and stayed alone, Chiang Mai News reported>.
Early Sunday night, security officers reportedly saw the American going out to shop at a nearby convenience store. Police checked footage from security cameras near the condominium and said it showed the man standing on his balcony before falling.
Police said they have yet to conclude whether the fall was an accident or suicide. No note was left behind. Rescue volunteers sent the body for an autopsy at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital.
