Ryan John Scerri, 32, had been staying at the Andaman Embrace Resort & Spa in Phuket’s Patong subdistrict since October 13 and was due to check out after ten days. He had been on holiday with his Canadian friend who police officers named as 32-year-old Ms Oiman Lai.
Pol Maj Battabi Srichai from Patong Provincial Police Station told Phuket Gazette, “According to Ms Lai, Mr Scerri said he was experiencing chest pain and having difficulty breathing at about 7 o’clock.” Mr Scerri lost consciousness shortly afterwards.
“She asked the hotel staff for help. They contacted the hospital and also performed first aid,” Pol Maj Battabi said. “An employee who performed first aid said Mr Scerri’s pulse was extremely slow.”
Doctors at Patong Hospital tried giving him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but were unnot to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 09:00 on Tuesday morning at Patong Hospital.
