Siwoo Park

Five days after he jumped into the sea to prevent girlfriend from drowning and ending up dead himself, the body of South Korean Siwoo Park has been found.

Fishermen had discovered the lifeless body floating on water about seven nautical miles (about 13 km) from Phuket’s Sirinat National Park in the island’s Thalang district. Officers from Thalang Provincial Police Station questioned a relative of Mr Park who positively identified the victim.

Mr Park had gone missing in the early hours on June 29 after a quarrel with his girlfriend, Ga-Ram Hong at around 1:00 on Wednesday. Despite red warning flags being posted, Ms Hong had jumped into the sea. The first time, Mr Park was able to pull her back, but as she repeated her suicide attempt, the couple was washed away by the waves.

Ms Hong was washed ashore hours later whereas the location of her boyfriend remained unclear until now. The couple is currently being examined by forensic experts at Vachira Phuket Hospital. The South Korean embassy has already been informed of the tragic incident.
