Police are trying to piece together the bizarre death of an elderly Swedish foreigner who was found dead inside the bathroom of his Pattaya condominium.
Officers from Mueang Pattaya Provincial Police Station had been called at 12:0o Wednesday morning to the View Talay Condominium in Nong Phrue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district to investigate the death of a foreigner.
After gaining access to room no. 339/505 on the tenth floor of building E using a spare key, they found the lifeless body of 62-year-old Sten Lundholm from Sweden in the bathroom. Kneeling on the tiled floor, his head was sunken into a plastic barrel filled with water and a heavy golf back attached to his neck.
Pol Lt Demdrong Rodsiri, who acts as the leading investigator in this case, said Mr Lundholm had been dead for approximately five to six hours before being discovered by the authorities.
Police On the table in the living room, police also collected a farewell letter written in a foreign language and addressed to his friends and family: “I can not live without sleeping any longer,” it said. “I love Thailand and Thai people but have no power anymore.”
Police interrogated Ms Weawmanee Luangkrathok, the 26-year-old owner of the apartment who had found the body. She said that she saw Mr Lundholm drinking at the bar on a daily basis. When he did not appear on Wednesday, she became suspicious and asked a security guard to he check on the customer. That was when they entered the room and found Mr Lundholm dead in the bathroom.
Apart from the unusual setting, Pol Lt Demdrong did not find any visible injuries. However, a post-mortem examination will be conducted at Police General Hospital in Bangkok to determine whether the man might have been a victim of rime.
