Torsten Otto Rudolf Drews
The body of a 48-year-old German national, identified as Mr. Torsten Otto Rudolf Drews, was found Saturday morning lying face-down behind rocks on Pattaya beach, opposite the entrance to Soi 6.
Police believe that the German had died at least two hours before his body was found by a scavenger at 8:30 in the morning. Mr Torsten Drews’ hand was still holding an empty bottle of imported whiskey while a second unopened bottle of the same brand was also found near the body, leading police to believe he had died from excessive drinking.
The Thai man told police he had first seen Mr Torsten Drews drinking alone on the beach shortly after midnight. When he passed the area again hours later, he found his lifeless body lying face-down in the sand. The Bangkok Post notes that “there were no signs of a struggle and the man’s belongings were untouched.”
Police rule out an unnatural cause of death and suspect that the 48-year-old Mr Drews died as a result of excessive alcohol consumption or possibly a sudden heart attack.
The German embassy has been informed of the man’s death and his body sent for a post-mortem in Bangkok to establish the exact cause of death.
