Police are investigating the death of an elderly Chinese tourist who has drowned in the pool of a hotel in Khlong Nueng subdistrict of Pathum Thani province Monday morning, Thai news website Daily News reports.
Pol Col Wacharaphong Thianbratham from Khlong Luang Provincial Police Station was informed about the death by the manager of the hotel. Along with medical staff from Thammasat University Hospital and rescue volunteers, investigators arrived on the scene and discovered the body the elderly Chinese floating lifeless in the hotel swimming pool.
An initial investigation identified the woman as 60-year-old Yi Xiang from China. She had arrived with a Chinese group tour and only had checked in at around midnight the day before the incident.
Friends of Ms Yi, who travelled with her, told police she went for a swim in the pool to cool off from the heat, but when her friends checked on her some time later, her head was already under water and she had lost consciousness.
Manager and hotel staff pulled the woman out of the water and tried to resuscitate her by performing first aid, but when rescue workers finally arrived, Ms Yi had already died.
A final examination to determine the cause of death will be conducted at Thammasat University Hospital.
